After one year of research and groundwork, the ReSea Project moves into action in 2026 with pilot activities, stakeholder workshops, and the launch of its Environmental Education Programme across Spain, Italy, and Croatia.
The ReSea Project celebrates its first anniversary, marking a key milestone in its mission to promote regenerative practices within the marine and outdoor sports sector. After a first year focused on research and mapping sports organisations engaged in environmental regeneration initiatives, the Project is now entering a decisive implementation phase.
In 2026, ReSea Sports will be implemented through a series of stakeholder workshops and pilot activities in Spain, Italy, and Croatia. These activities aim to test and refine the Governance methodology developed by the Project partners, supporting marine sports clubs in transitioning toward sustainable and regenerative operational models.
A central element of this phase is the Indicator System developed by the European Network of Outdoor Sports (ENOS).
This system enables clubs and grassroots organisations to assess how their regular operations align with sustainability and restoration criteria defined by the Project. Based on baseline values established during Year 1, the system allows partners to:
The indicators were developed from the regenerative marine sports definition developed in year 1 and the data from the research element of the project. They are structured around seven key elements:
A series of questions in relation to the indicators were developed for each of these elements and a weighted scoring mechanism applied to it. Twelve clubs completed the survey and generated scores against each criteria. The average scores within this baseline survey are in Figure 1. As can be seen, overall governance and the monitoring and measuring carbon impact and resource usage are significant areas of weakness for these organisations and so mechanisms to support this are needed. Clubs will be surveyed again at the end of Years 2 and 3, enabling partners to track measurable improvements and long-term change.
Alongside the implementation of pilot activities and the monitoring of indicators, each pilot site undertook the creation of a vulnerability assessment and SWOT analysis for the site. This examined:
A major recent milestone is the launch of the Environmental Education Programme, developed by DAN Europe.
The online training platform offers flexible, self-paced courses designed to help marine sports organisations adopt regenerative practices. It includes practical tools and guidance to support governance improvement, carbon monitoring, and ecosystem protection.
In March, Project partners will meet in Pesaro, Italy, to visit one of the pilot sites hosted by Nautilus. The meeting will advance the development of key deliverables and evaluate on-the-ground pilot activities.
With research completed and implementation underway, 2026 represents a pivotal year for the ReSea Project as it moves from analysis to measurable environmental impact.
Stay tuned for further updates as ReSea Sports continues to grow across Europe!
ENOS is the European Network of Outdoor Sports, advancing outdoor sports to generate social, environmental, and community benefits. We unite a diverse ecosystem of stakeholders — from local clubs to national federations, from environmental NGOs to research institutions — creating a platform where knowledge, practice, and policy converge.
ENOS brings together practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and industry to shape a European model for outdoor sports, one that protects access to nature while promoting sustainability, inclusion, and social well-being.
Across Europe, strategies and policies vary widely, and many remain fragmented. By linking research, policy, and practice, ENOS ensures that local insights inform European frameworks and that European priorities translate into tangible action on the ground.
