ReSea Sports Promotes Sustainable Competition at the Filippi Trophy 2026 – Italy
As part of the ReSea Sports project, NAUTILUS carried out a sustainability-focused intervention during the Filippi Beach Sprint Trophy 2026 – Fano Stage, one of Italy’s leading beach sprint rowing competitions. Held from 17 to 19 April 2026, the event brought together athletes and clubs from across Europe, the Middle East, and North America, providing an ideal platform to promote the ReSea Sports project and raise awareness about sustainability in coastal sporting events.
With participants representing 16 countries and 162 race entries, the event offered an opportunity to explore how international sporting competitions can reduce their environmental footprint while encouraging more sustainable practices among athletes, clubs, and event organisers.
Activities Carried Out
Promoting ReSea Sports at an International Competition
Throughout the competition, NAUTILUS promoted the ReSea Sports project and its environmental mission through a series of visibility and communication actions. ReSea flags were displayed within the competition area, while ReSea stickers were placed on racing boats, ensuring strong visibility among athletes, clubs, officials, and spectators. These actions helped strengthen the connection between coastal sports and environmental responsibility.
Testing a Carbon Footprint Assessment Tool
A pilot carbon footprint assessment was launched to better understand the environmental impact generated by participants travelling to the event. Developed in collaboration with ENOS, the online questionnaire collected information on transportation methods, travel distances, accommodation, and other mobility-related factors affecting greenhouse gas emissions.
The “Greenest Club” Initiative
To encourage participation, ReSea Sports introduced the “Greenest Club” initiative, inviting teams to contribute data and compete for recognition based on the environmental impact of their travel and accommodation choices. Bilingual communication materials and QR codes were displayed throughout the venue, encouraging athletes and team representatives to engage with the initiative and reflect on the sustainability of sporting events.

Although the short implementation timeline limited the number of completed questionnaires, the initiative successfully tested a practical approach for measuring environmental impacts within international sporting events. The lessons learned will support the further development of ReSea Sports tools and methodologies, helping future events become more regenerative and environmentally responsible.
